Star Studded "Smokin' Aces" Benefit Screening in Sacramento
By Jonathan Mumm January 12, 2007It's an outrageous, ultra-violent, darkly comic, no holds barred whirlwind of a movie, but Saturday night, "Smokin' Aces" will be raising money for the John T. Holley Foundation.
The event features a VIP reception beginning at 5 p.m. at the Sacramento Theatre Company, followed by the 8 p.m. screening at the Century Theatre on Ethan Way. Viewers can then visit an after party at the Avalon at 11.
Sacramento director Joe Carnahan will be on hand along with two of the movie's stars Jeremy Piven ("Entourage") and rapper Common.
Local actor Chris Holley will also be part of the festivities. "Smokin' Aces" marks his feature film debut playing a bodyguard for would-be mobster Piven.
The benefit was Holley's idea as a way to launch the John T. Holley Foundation which is named after his father, a long-time area teacher. The foundation offers scholarships to minority, disadvantaged and foster youth. The event also benefits the Sacramento Theatre Company, currently celebrating its 65th year.
VIP tickets good for all three events are $150. General admission tickets for the screening only are available for $25. Tickets are available at the Sacramento Theatre Company box office, 1419 H Street or call 888-4-STC-TIX.
